Steve's Weblog ........................................ ( 2/21/02 )
Hi everyone, I have received alot of inquiries lately as to how I am doing so it's probably time for an email update. After several rounds of discussions with my docs in Boston and here in Binghamton, I have decided to proceed forward with post-operative chemo treatments. The treatments, 5FU and CPT-11, start tomorrow afternoon. I will receive a treatment the Friday of weeks 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 & 8. So, I have a challenging two to three months ahead of me but I suppose better safe than sorry.
The feeding tube came out a few weeks ago so my comfort level has gotten alot better. I mean literally, it came out on its own. I woke up at 5 AM one morning to find the tube hanging out of my side due to the stitches coming undone. It wasn't pleasant holding 10 - 12" of tube in my hand unexpectedly.
Biggest challenge continues to be learning how to eat. I have had several gagging incidents where I cannot get food down. Dr. Waine attributes it to muscle spasms in my esophagus (what's left of it) but we are keeping a close eye on it to see if it continues. My weight seems to finally be stablizing around 165 lbs.
I returned to work full-time a couple weeks ago. It feels good to be somewhat normal again. I would feel alot better if the eating was going better.
How about them Pats, huh? It's gonna be a good year.
Hope everyone is well, Steve
